5 Gripping Shows like Suits: Law, Order & Intelligence

Kerry Provenzano itcherWant to find more shows like ‘Suits’? You should check out ‘House of Cards’, ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘Sherlock’. ~ Kerry Provenzano

Internet, Meet Mike Ross

Smooth, slick and enough well-tailored suits and dresses to raise anyone’s heart rate: ‘Suits’ is a winner.

When Mike Ross accidentally finds himself in an interview with a top law attorney, he just hopes it lasts long enough for him to dodge a drug charge. So, when he gets the job and ends up practising law without a licence, he relies on his eidetic memory to see him through.

But don’t think that Mike runs the show, because he has some brilliant characters surrounding him. All of which are brilliantly written, which is why ‘Suits’ is one of my favourite shows ever.

Quite frankly, who wouldn’t want to find more TV shows like ‘Suits’? Here are my top picks.

‘House of Cards’ (Netflix, 2013 – Present)

With slyer moves than anyone in ‘Suits’ and far more illegal activity, ‘House of Cards’ is one of the greatest series like ‘Suits’ if its deceit and power hungry characters you’re after. Follow Congressman Frank Underwood in his journey to the top, but be warned, much like Mike Ross, he’s less than conventional.

Similarity Match: 80%
Both in difficult jobs and both have interesting ways of working their way to the top…

‘The Good Wife’ (CBS, 2009 – Present)

Think of ‘The Good Wife’ as the slicker, older sister to ‘Suits’. If (like me) Donna is your favourite female character in ‘Suits’, you’ll love the female driven roles in ‘The Good Wife’.  Housewife Alicia Florrick has to clear up the mess her husband left behind when he lands himself in jail after a public sex and political corruption scandal. Oops.

Similarity Match: 75%
Slightly more female orientated in this one, but ‘Suits’ has some strong female characters too.

‘Silk’ (BBC, 2011 – 2014)

‘Silk’ is a show for the real law buffs. This is one of the grittier TV series like ‘Suits’ as it sits you at the forefront of hard cases on the front line of criminal law and the stories behind them. Great if you’re more interested in the law than the quirky intelligence in ‘Suits’. (Psst, any ‘Game of Thrones’ fans? You may well spot a familiar face, Natalie Dormer).

Similarity Match: 70%
Great for those who just can’t get enough of the law element of ‘Suits’.

‘House’ (FOX, 2004 – 2012)

Love the fact Mike was so intelligent? I know he makes a few stupid mistakes, but on the whole, his brain is pretty incredible. And much like Mike, Dr House has one of those great minds that figure things out before other people do, regardless of whether others think he’s crazy for following a particular trail of thought.

Similarity Match: 65%
Think of Dr House as the closer of medical cases, much like Harvey Specter is the closer of law suits.

‘Sherlock’ (BBC, 2010 – Present)

Don’t try to tell me Sherlock Holmes’s powers of deduction don’t have you Googling how to read somebody (it’s okay, we’ve all done it). If you’re looking for shows similar to ‘Suits’ in the way of baffling intelligence, ‘Sherlock’ is your best bet. Similar to ‘House’ in focusing on intelligence, but in ‘Sherlock’ we get a great element of vigilante criminal investigation too.

Similarity Match: 65%
A nod towards law with the criminal investigations, but this is more similar to ‘Suits’ in terms of awesome brain power from our lead characters.

From Sharp Ties to Sherlock

So which of these TV shows like ‘Suits’ will you be checking out first?

Let me know in the comments!

And once you’re done with all of these, just watch ‘Suits’ again! (I can’t be the only one who watches them on repeat…)

Hey, I’m Kerry. I began writing aged 4, when I wrote a moving retelling of the classic fairytale, Jack and the Beanstalk.
