5 Shows like Charmed: Do You Believe in Witchcraft?

Alone they are pretty special, but together they are the awesome ‘Charmed’. The Haliwell sisters are not women to be messed with. They have been put on earth to help others and will let nothing stand in their way. If you are looking for other TV shows like ‘Charmed’, ‘Witches of East End’ takes a glamorous walk into the world of witchcraft and ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ will let you reminisce about your teenage years.

The Power of Three Will Set You Free

The Halliwell sisters are happily getting on with their lives when they discover that they are descendants of a long line of witches. Freaked out at first, the sisters soon decide to use their unique skills (stopping time, moving objects, seeing the future) to battle against evil forces.

Alone they each have a special power, but together they have the ‘Power of Three’. If you are missing the ladies’ witchcraft skills, we take a look at TV series like ‘Charmed’.

‘Witches of East End’ (Fox, 2013-2014)

The ‘Witches of East End’ are the bewitched Beauchamp women, Joanna, Freya, Wendy and Ingrid. By day, Long Island’s secluded seaside town of North Hampton is sleepy at best, but by night the mortal family of witches comes alive to fight the demons that haunt their town.

Personal matters are often at the forefront of the ladies’ minds just as much as fighting against outside evils. Take a look at these quotes from the show to give you an idea of how wicked these witches can be.

Similarity Match: 95%
‘Witches of East End’ is a darker exploration of the world of witchcraft, with long running storylines rather than with a different story each episode. Nevertheless, the show does bring a bit of the magic back that ‘Charmed’ fans were missing.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ (Mutant Enemy, 1997-2003)

Buffy Summers wants nothing more than to be a normal student, but that’s not to be the case. Instead, Buffy’s destiny is to slay vampires, demons and other evil creatures that threaten her family and friends. There is one saving grace for Buffy – she has an army of friends, called “The Scooby Gang” who are happy to help her slay demons.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is lighthearted and fluffy so expect plenty of smiles as you join,  from the comfort of your own home, the race to rid the world of vampires.

Similarity Match: 90%
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is a very tongue-in-cheek look at the world of vampires and never takes itself too seriously, just like ‘Charmed’.

‘Ghost Whisperer’ (CBS, 2005-2010)

Another series like ‘Charmed’ is ‘Ghost Whisperer’. Melinda Gordon’s grandmother had the ability to communicate with the spirits of the recently deceased, and it seems that Melinda has inherited her skills.

Others are sceptical about Melinda’s supernatural abilities, but she is determined to help others just like her grandmother did. Melinda helps the ghosts wandering around who are trapped between worlds by helping them to resolve unfulfilled aspects of their former life.

Similarity Match: 80%
‘Ghost Whisperer’ is a much more serious show, with less laughs and more emotional outburst likely to occur. ‘Ghost Whisperer’ is certainly unbelievable, but has the ability to make you think.

***
‘Smallville’ (Tollin, 2001-2011)

The numerous miraculous rescues by the local wonder boy Clark have aroused suspicions amongst colonials of Smallville. We all know the story of Superman, but we’ve never heard about his younger days.

Clark must keep his powers a secret and it certainly seems that he is able to do so, that is until his friend Lex begins to become suspicious.

Similarity Match: 75%
There is no witchcraft in Smallville, but there are mystical powers aplenty and enough secrets to last a lifetime.

***
‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ (Finishing the Hat, 1996-2003)

Sabrina Spellman is a regular sixteen-year-old who loves nothing more than hanging out with her friends and thinking of new excuses why she has not done her homework. Oh, and she just happens to be a witch.

She discovers that she is a witch when she is told by her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, who are also witches. We see Sabrina prepare to receive her witches’ licence, sometimes with hilarious consequences.

Similarity Match: 70%
Sabrina wants to use her witch powers to have fun and save people from trivial problems, as opposed to the more evil presence in ‘Charmed’.
