Shows Similar to ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’…

‘Parks and Recreation’ (NBC, 2009-2015)

This show is in fact made by the creators of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, and as such, contains a great deal of similar humour. Set in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana, ‘Parks and Recreation’ has Amy Poehler AKA Leslie Knope as its main character.

Knope is being pressured to fill in a pit that another character has tumbled into, and the show tracks the political progress of this alongside the relationships of the show’s characters. Often a little tongue in cheek, the show provides viewers with a humorous take on park ranger life in America!

Similarity Match: 85%
The characters’ risqué humour has us laughing for hours as each show mock form of the American civil service, but Gina from ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ does so in a less extreme manner.

‘2 Broke Girls’ (CBS, 2011-Present)

Max’s life is pretty simple until she meets Caroline, an ex-millionaire who becomes penniless after her dad is convicted of fraud. Caroline joins poverty-stricken Max in waitressing at a New York diner, and shares her one bedroom apartment. These two girls soon become best friends in this laugh-a-minute comedy.

Viewers follow the girls’ antics as they attempt to combine Caroline’s business head with Max’s ability to bake amazing cupcakes. Fans of TV series similar to ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ are sure to chuckle along with this American situational comedy.

Similarity Match: 80%
Both ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘2 Broke Girls’ take place in the workplace, but Max and Caroline serve people food rather than justice.

‘Big Bang Theory’ (CBS, 2007-Present)

Leonard’s life is turned upside down when he moves in with quirky physicist, Sheldon Cooper. However, the pretty blonde across the hallway may prove to be the perfect tonic to Sheldon’s antics.

This critique examines why ‘The Big Bang Theory’ shot to success after hitting our TV screens 9 years ago. The charismatic friendship of the four main guys in the show – Leonard, Sheldon, Howard and Raj – is enough to make any nerd or science lover look up in glee.

Similarity Match: 75%
The main four on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ are always trying to outdo each other in a hilarious manner – just like the detectives of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ – but they specialise in science rather than crime.

‘New Girl’ (FOX, 2011-Present)

When primary school teacher Jessica Day discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her, she needs to move out immediately. Luckily for her, there’s a spare room in an apartment with three best friends.

Although initially concerned about being the sole lady of the house, Jess soon finds Nick, Schmidt and Winston to be true friends. ‘New Girl’ follows the gang as they attempt to find romance, secure a good income, and most importantly, achieve happiness.

Similarity Match: 70%
Friendship is at the core of both ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘New Girl’, but the former occurs in the workplace rather than the home.

‘Melissa & Joey’ (ABC Family, 2010-2015)

Melissa and Joey are a rather unlikely pair – she’s a local politician and the custodial auntie of two kids, whilst he’s, well, a ‘manny’.

A ‘manny’ is a male nanny, and although Melissa often seems to look down on Joey, deep down you know she’s glad she’s got him by her side as she learns how to raise children.

Joey is an ex-Banker who got hit with a Ponzi scheme, but in a heart-warming manner, ends up learning that he loves his new job far more than he ever did his old.

Similarity Match: 65%
‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘Melissa & Joey’ are both centred on the workplace, but the latter have a much greater focus on family life as well.

‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ (CBS, 2000-2015)

Ever wanted to know how forensic teams solve crimes? Well, here’s your answer!

Nick, Sara and the team spend their days (and nights) hunting down Vegas’ most ruthless killers. Not only do viewers get an insight into this, but the lives and friendships of the crime scene investigators are also featured.

‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ has a much greater focus on actual crime fighting than ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, but both have charismatic detectives.
