Ride high with Walter White and his protege Jessie, as the unlikely duo takes a journey filled with drama, deception and a ton of crystal meth. Breaking Bad is one of the most addictive TV shows ever made, so you can quite easily finish a series in less than a week! Be prepared to be taken to places you never thought existed, just like our good guy turned bad guy Walter. If can’t get over your Breaking Bad addiction, here are my top 5 suggestions for TV series like Breaking Bad that may just help your recovery.
Our favourite dodgy lawyer from Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman, gets his very own, well deserved, spin-off show. We join Saul as he secretly graduates from law school, after taking a few wrong turns in life. The cinematography in this show is excellent, adding an edgy dimension to very engaging storylines, that we have come to know and love in Breaking Bad.
Like Walter, central character Nancy Botwin falls on the wrong side of the law when tragedy strikes her family. Having to look after her family, after her husband dies, Nancy turns to growing marijuana in order to maintain her privileged lifestyle. There are plenty of thrills, spills and innocent bystanders caught up in Nancy’s mess along the way. Great writing and slick plot lines make this show a three episode a night type of show.
Another series like Breaking Bad is The Sopranos, a show that has been with us since 1999 but is still attracting TV fanatics, who cannot get enough box sets in their life. The show follows the life of crime boss Tony Soprano, who is jumps between strong Italian family values and a life of crime, that sees others suffer serious consequences from his actions. Featuring a great ensemble cast, The Sopranos explores storylines that a lot of people can relate to, as well as far fetched plots that leave the audience gasping.
The Shield takes us on a whirlwind journey with corrupt LA cop Vic Mackey as he takes the law into is own hands. We soon find out that Vic is not the only rogue cop on the scene, as the whole establishment blurs the boundaries between right and wrong. The show constantly questions the morals of the characters and the audience on the other side of the screen. Sometimes you just have to do wrong to do right, right?
The Wire has to be THE show to watch, if you are addicted to great US TV. The Wire is an outstanding piece of writing, exploring the lives of those wrapped up in the seedy Baltimore drug world. The show features all aspects of the drug chain, including cops, families of drug users and innocent kids caught up in the seedy world of Baltimore street life. Characters, like Stringer Bell and Omar, will frustrate you and pull on your heartstrings at the same time, making it hard for you to switch off the TV.
If you are having withdrawal symptoms, don’t suffer in silence; we are here to help. If you love Breaking Bad for the good guy turned bad storyline, Weeds will give you your next fix. If it is the dark side of drugs that draws you in, The Wire will take you on a roller coaster ride, that Walter White would relish in. I hope you enjoy these recommendations of shows similar to Breaking Bad.
