It’s a show of high quality that many consider to be the best verison of Batman put to screen. It reached critical acclaim, winning four Emmy Awards and spawning two films. ‘The Batman’ (The WB, 2005 – 2008)

Kicking off the list we have another fine adaptation of Batman. ‘The Batman’ explores the Dark Knight’s early years as he battles new and old foes that plan to attack Gotham. Though it doesn’t hit the heights of the popular 90’s series, ‘The Batman’ will be enjoyed by fans of the comic book character. There are many Batman shows and this series may just be one of the best put to screen.

‘Superman: The Animated Series’ (The WB, 1996 – 2000)

After the success of ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ it wasn’t long before Superman got a show of his own. Set in the same universe as Batman, this animated series follows Superman from childhood on Krypton all the way to becoming the savior of earth. This series was as popular as ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ often lauded for its maturity and freshness brought to the character. The show spawned a popular film and a game was released in 2002.

‘Static Shock’ (The WB, 2000 – 2004)

Move over adults, it’s the kids that rule in ‘Static Shock’. The show follows Virgil Hawkins, a boy who attains powers after breaking into a chemical storage plant. The one time troubled teen turns superhero thanks to his power to control electricity. ‘Static Shock’ is very much in the mould of Spider-man as it follows a young hero who must not only grapple with his new powers but life as a teenager growing up.

‘The Mask: Animated Series’ (CBS, 1995 – 1997)

Adapted from the popular Jim Carrey movie, ‘The Mask: Animated Series’ follows the antics of normal everyman Stanley Ipkiss, who with the help of his mask is changed into a wacky superhero. Proving more often than not to be a nuisance, the hero must fight crime as well as contend with the police intent on bringing him to justice. As with the film, this animated series blends action with laugh-out-loud gags and silly humour.

Unlike the previous show, this animated series looks further into the lives of sidekicks Robin and Batgirl and also tied in with ‘Superman: The Animated Series’.
