Best Way to Market a Mobile App… Don’t Think About Marketing!

How do you market a mobile app when you have limited experience in marketing or know much about apps?

A good starting point is simple communication. I am a firm believer in communication and if you tell people enough about your product in a variety of mediums, they will respond. Now whether this response is what you expect… it’s a different topic.

With so many multi-media channels available at our finger tips, it’s hard to image websites not greeting you with intricate promotional videos or interesting info-graphics…

…we started itcher’s marketing the traditional way, notepad and pencil. Exciting stuff you may think, it gets better!

We knew one thing, itcher had to be explained in a way that would intrigue and excite visitors. After a 40 minute brainstorming session, between a graphic designer, technical director and founder of the app, Daniel (who agrees to pretty much anything that is not finance), we decided that the best way to market the mobile app was to explain how it works in a 30 second teaser video.

“We knew one thing, itcher had to be explained in a way that would intrigue and excite visitors.”

The biggest challenge you will find when marketing a brand new app is consistency, which is even more difficult when the app is still in the development stages.

So here it is,

The best way to market a mobile app that has gone through 20 face changes in a space of a week and switched its Sign Up process more times than I’ve switched hair styles in my life-time;

focus on the concept!

We took the core concept of itcher and built a video (ended up nearly 2 minutes at one point but we got there). We also focused on what it will deliver, not how it will look or how it will function, but what visitors will get out of itcher once they download it. Visitors need to love the concept of the mobile app if they are going to spend time using it.

The video is very minimalistic and captures the recommendation process of itcher as well as touching on the social elements that will make this app so unique and tailored to each person who downloads it.

We hope you will get a good sense of what to expect from itcher and if not, expect to be pleasantly surprised.
