5 Great Movies With Dwayne Johnson Other than Skyscraper

Can you smell what the Dwayne is cooking? Why, it’s another big blockbuster release – Skyscraper. To celebrate The Rock’s continuing Hollywood superstardom, let’s take a look at some of his memorable roles over the years.

FAST FIVE (Justin Lin, 2011)

Dwayne Johnson joined the ensemble cast of The Fast and the Furious movie as antagonist Hobbs in Fast Five, the movie widely acknowledged as the one that successfully revamped the series and made it a global hit – coincidence? I think not. Johnson would reprise the role in later instalments, switching over to the good guys in the process.

MOANA (Ron Clements, John Musker, 2016)

A modern Disney family-friendly classic, Moana has Johnson play the Polynesian mythological hero Maui (in the movie, he’s a demigod). He accompanies the movie’s titular star, Moana, in her quest to restore the heart of Te Fiti.

FURIOUS 7 (James Wan, 2015)

Hobbs was sidelined for much of Furious 7’s runtime and yet he still gets some of the movie’s most memorable moments and lines – these include a powerhouse battle with Jason Statham’s Shaw (the two characters are getting their own spin-off now) and a movie-stealing third-act appearance.

THE MUMMY RETURNS (Stephen Sommers, 2001)

The Fast and the Furious wasn’t the first time Dwayne Johnson started of as villain that was later portrayed as a hero. In his first feature film role, he played the monstrous Scorpion King (half-man, half-scorpion, all bad CGI) and he later reprised the role in a spin-off prequel.

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (Jake Kasdan, 2017)

A sequel/soft reboot of a classic, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stars Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black as video game avatars for four teens who get sucked into the world of Jumanji. One of the biggest hits of last year that went toe to toe with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle already has a sequel in the works.
